TASTY career opportunities and the chance of a prize meal for two were on offer at an Inverclyde schools' jobs fayre.

Employers including Rolls Royce, Ferguson Marine, the Royal Air Force, Police Scotland and the NHS were on hand to answer questions and offer advice.

Hundreds of pupils attended the event, hosted by Notre Dame High, and also including students from Port Glasgow High, Inverclyde Academy and St Stephen's High.

Organiser Ashleigh Flynn said: "It was a really worthwhile and enjoyable day.

"The S3, S5 and S6 pupils went away with a lot of knowledge and food for thought.

"The diversity of careers which were showcased is very encouraging and I thank everyone who took part in what was a very meaningful exercise."

Other exhibitors included JP Morgan, Graham and Sibbald chartered surveyors and West College Scotland.

Two trophies were given out at each stand for the best questions asked on the day, with the winners going forward to a prize draw for a Nando's meal.

Police constables Marie Houston and Kirsty Boyd, Inverclyde's schools liaison officer, reported 'great interest' shown in the service as a lifetime career choice.

PC Houston said: "A lot of S5 and S6 students want to follow the lead shown by last year's head boy, Lewis Reaney, who is now stationed at a police office in Glasgow.

"Both Kirsty and I were in high demand throughout the day and were more than happy to provide information about careers with Police Scotland."

Ian Tyson, a lecturer in computer games programming, also received keen interest in the field as part of pupils' further and higher education plans.

Mr Tyson said: "The skills you get from games development are in high demand, and not just from the games industry.

"Programmers use applied maths and graphic design and can apply for jobs in all sorts of industries."

Noelle MacKay, of NHS Scotland, said: "The NHS has won many awards for developing a young workforce.

"We're not all about doctors and nurses as there are literally hundreds of jobs within the service and the interest shown here has been most welcome.

"Events such as this are so worthwhile for everyone involved."
