A GREENOCK dad has hit out after finding a used hypodermic needle lying on grass just yards from a school as he took his baby boy for a walk.

Connor Harrison said he was shocked when he spotted the syringe discarded next to the footpath in Cumberland Road, near Inverclyde Academy.

The 23-year-old, who lives in Branchton, immediately posted a warning online about the drug paraphernalia which was lying on grass next to the Ravenscraig substation.

He said: "It was disgusting to see.

"It's right across the street from the school and in the same area where kids play, so it's very concerning.

"Kids are always walking up and down this path to and from school.

"I was actually out walking with my two week old son for the first time when I spotted it.

"It's just so disheartening to see that - it's something you never want to see, it's horrible."

Connor, who is the head chef at Cafe Flava in Gourock, says the person who discarded the needle should be ashamed of themselves.

He added: "Just to leave it on the grass is very concerning.

"There's no excuse for it.

"I'm now worried that there may be more scattered about."

The Tele alerted Inverclyde Council about the needle.
