THE first weekend recovery cafe has been launched in Inverclyde.

The new pilot get-together for people who are on a journey from addiction runs on Saturdays at Port Nazarene in the Clune Brae.

Jaci Tarrant is leading the pilot and says it has been very successful so far and is hopeful that it will continue.

She says that this particular cafe is peer led and is driven by what the group want to do that day.

Jaci said: "It provides a safe place in some capacity for people to share their journey and from time to time there will be more structured activities.

"We will have guest speakers including a comedian who uses writing for her recovery and someone from a community garden to talk about certain foods can affect your mood and well-being."

It is also hoped that if the cafe becomes a permanent fixture then a space will be created at the back of the church which will accessible 24 hours a day.

Jaci said: "It has lovely views over the Clyde and will be a space for people who want a little bot of contemplation to boost positive thoughts and well-being."

The group also has links with Your Voice and the other recovery cafes on a Wednesday and Friday night in Greenock and at the Salvation Army in Port Glasgow on a Tuesday night.

She said: "It's all about recovering together, you are never alone with it.

"If you feel you need to be amongst some friends at the weekend, then it will be there. I am sure it will have a positive impact on the community."

The pilot runs for another two weeks on Saturdays between 1 and 3pm.

All are welcome.
