A BRAVE three-year-old Greenock girl is going the extra mile in memory of her much-missed mum.

Little Poppy Shaw is taking part in the Glasgow Bubble Rush 5k as a tribute to her Jen Shaw, who sadly passed away after battling cancer.

Poppy will take on the challenge with her gran Janet Stewart, her auntie Lorna Stewart and her cousin Shannon, nine, as well as 15 of Jen's closest friends.

Janet said: "It's good for Poppy as she'll be able to look back on this.

"She remembers all the people her mum was friends with so it's nice for her to have that contact with them and keep that connection."

Jen, 30, a devoted mother to the three-year-old and loving wife to husband Andrew, slipped away on March 20 last year.

Just a few months after her death she was named Heart of Gold winner at the Greenock Telegraph's Community Champions Awards.

She was recognised for her extraordinary fundraising and efforts to raise awareness of bowel cancer, all while undergoing gruelling treatment and caring for her new baby.

Jen's sister Lorna says they chose the colourful and fun-filled event as it represents Jen's bright and bubbly nature.

She said "Jen would've loved it.

"She would've had her tutu and pink rags on and loving every minutes of it."

Janet says they are so pleased to see so many of Jen's friends signing up and hope to raise as much as they can for Ardgowan Hospice, where she was cared for.

She said: "There are two mini buses going up.

"Her best pal Michelle Ross and her wee boy Kaiden are doing it which is lovely as Poppy goes to nursery with him.

"All the people Jen knew from toddlers groups and nursery are going, which is great."

Lorna said: "My brother Jamie started off the fundraising by donating £50.

"We hope to raise plenty and have set up an online Just Giving page. We also have sponsor sheets too."

The event takes place on May 5.
