A MAJOR river rescue operation including a helicopter swung into operation on the Clyde after a group of kayakers capsized.
The three members of the Royal West of Scotland Boat Club were seen clinging to their tiny craft in the Clyde near Greenock's Campbell Street jetty.
A land-based Coastguard rescue team, Helensburgh RNLI lifeboat and a helicopter from Prestwick rushed to scene when the alarm was raised at 3.50pm yesterday afternoon.
A Coastguard spokesman said: "The kayakers were floating and holding on to their boats.
"The pilot vessel 'Gantock' responded to the mayday call recovered the kayakers to shore, where they were attended to by an ambulance crew.
"They appeared to be none the worse following the incident."
