GREENOCK-BORN footballer Nicky Low is weighing up his future after receiving an offer to play in America next season.

The midfielder joined Queen of the South in January after spending two seasons with League of Ireland side Derry City.

The 27-year-old had trained with the Ton for a few months to help maintain his fitness levels after he left the Candy Stripes in October.

But Low says he’s keen to explore options abroad – including some from the second tier of US football.

He told the Tele: “I’ve been back in Scotland since the end of October.

“It’s been good but after being back and seeing my family again I’m itching to go abroad again, I can’t stay in one place.

“My missus says I always need to be doing something. I can’t sit still, even when I’m off.

“I’ve got a few options to go away again. I’ve been offered something in America from the league below the MLS. I’ve had a few offers from people I know over there and that’s one I’d like to look into, but I’ll have to wait and see.”

The former Dundee and Aberdeen midfielder has spent eight seasons in Scotland and says he’s keen to test himself in other countries. But he admits he will have to weigh up several factors before moving overseas.

He added: “My old Derry City team-mate Ben Fisk, who is from Canada and moved back to play there this season, was saying there’s a lot of travelling involved playing over there.

“It’s something I’ll have to consider, especially if my wife was going to come over with me, it’s unfair on her.

“I need to look at everything as it will be overnight stays at these places as well.

“There’s no language barrier for America, which is a positive, but I’ve got another few things brewing too.

“There’s nothing concrete on those ones yet but I’lll just need to wait and see what transpires.

“It would be nice when you look back on your career that you played abroad, to have something to look back on and have those memories. It is interesting times, but I’m looking forward to what the end of the season brings and seeing what’s appeals to me.”

For now the midfielder is concentrating on his football with Queens, and is working his way back from a groin injury.

The 27-year-old has had to play through injury for the last few weeks, and was ruled out of lining up against Morton on Tuesday because of it.

He said: “I’ve damaged my groin so I just need to rest.

“I’ve done it a few times but I’ve just had to play through it recently. We’ve got a few injuries at the moment so I had to wait for a few team-mates to get fit.

“The main thing for me was to come back and play regularly – and I played every match prior to my injury.

“Hopefully I can make an impact again over the last few weeks of the season, and help us move up the table.”
