STARS from Inverclyde Musical Theatre are set to entertain crowds with a classic comedy.

They raised the curtain on Legally Blonde The Musical at Beacon Arts Centre last night.

A cast of 50 local kids shone in the all-singing, all dancing spectacular.

Director Julie McKellar said: "It's been one of the most challenging shows we've ever done, technically.

"We have a really big set and there are a lot of dance routines.

"It's an ambitious production and it's never been done before in Inverclyde."

The stage show is based on the smash hit movie starring Reece Witherspoon, which follows the transformation of Elle Woods as she tackles stereotypes and scandal in pursuit of her dreams.

The leading ladies are Rebecca Keane and Morgan Fleming but it really is a team effort from backstage to behind the scenes and the perfect pooches who play Rufus and Bruiser.

Julie said: "The young people have worked really hard and have really enjoyed the experience.

"It's a lot of fun and there is a lot of pink."

Kieran Young is the musical director and Carolyn Anderson is the choreographer, while Paul Alford produces the show.

He urged people to go along to enjoy a great night out and cheer on the youngsters.

Paul said: "It really is all about having a good time and supporting the young people in the community."

The show runs at 7.30pm tonight and there are two performances tomorrow, at 2.30pm and 7.30pm.

Tickets cost £18 and can be booked by calling 723723.
