DETECTIVES are investigating a suspected hammer attack in Greenock.
A probe has been launched after a 23-year-old man was seriously assaulted in John Street, near to St Lawrence Street, between 11 and 11.30am today.
He was attacked by two other men and police believe he was hit with a weapon, possibly a hammer.
The victim was taken to Inverclyde Royal Hospital for treatment and received stitches to a head wound.
He was later released.
The two male suspects are described as being in their early 20s and were wearing dark clothing.
A female may have also been involved in the incident.
Detective Neil Martin, of Greenock CID, said: “We’re appealing to anyone who may have been in the area at the time to contact us.
“It’s usually quite a busy area around the flats at John Street so anyone who may have seen a disturbance involving three males and maybe a female between 11 and 11.30am please get in touch.”
