INVERCLYDE'S top sports stars were honoured at a glittering awards ceremony in Greenock Town Hall.

The sports personality event has become a popular annual fixture and is an opportunity to recognise talent and hard work across all sports throughout the year.

Coaches, volunteers, local clubs and school teams all picked up prizes at the bash.

Kyle Brotherton claimed Senior Sports Personality of the year for swimming and wheelchair athletics while swimmer Matthew Garrity was chosen as Junior Sports Personality of the year.

Another swimmer, Isaac Dunning, received the gong for Disabled Sports Personality of the year and John Black was named Coach Personality of the Year for martial arts.

Amber Zoe Livingstone from Clyde 1, presented the awards and Leon Smith, captain of the Great Britain Davis Cup team was guest speaker.

Amber said: "I loved the evening - it was a night full of determination, passion, drive, success and most importantly, community.

"The people of Inverclyde made me feel so welcome and I am really thrilled to have been given the opportunity to host these special awards."

Leon added: "The awards evening was very impressive and I was delighted to be a part of it."

Chris Jewell, of the organisers hailed the event as a great success.

Mr Jewell said: "Once again we are grateful to our sponsors for making such a worthwhile event possible and for Leon for being with us and speaking.

"Thanks are also due to ICE Catering for a lovely meal and to Parklea Branching Out for the beautiful flowers.

"It was also great to be able to present two grants on stage as part of the grant scheme which is funded from the proceeds of the awards event."
