STAFF at Inverkip Primary had colourful classrooms to teach when Mary Poppins, Alice in Wonderland and Paddington Bear turned up for lessons.

They were just some of the famous story characters around the school after a love of literature inspired children to dress up for World Book Day.

There were lots of very creative costumes on show and the staff even got involved as well - dressing as Annie and the Cat in the Hat.

Head teacher Diane Renfrew meanwhile came along dressed as the Little Pink Ballerina to help bring the character to life.

She praised parents for taking the chance to encourage their children to read as much as possible.

Mrs Renfrew said: “I have been so impressed with the level of creativity and thought put into the costumes this year.

“I would like to than the parents, pupils and staff for putting in the effort to make World Book Day so special.

“It was great to see everyone bring their favourite story book characters to life and enjoy reading.

“Everyone had a great day and there was a lovely atmosphere in the school.”
