MORTON striker Denny Johnstone could return from injury before the end of the season after previously being ruled out for the rest of the campaign.

Manager Jonatan Johnsson has revealed that the striker, who has been plagued by injury problems in his second spell at Cappielow, may feature in some of the Ton’s final few league games.

The former St Johnstone player first injured his knee back in April last year, requiring surgery on it afterwards.
He signed for the Ton last summer and returned from injury in August and played four games in total.

But the injury flared up again shortly afterwards, and the 24-year-old has suffered several setbacks when close to a return.

The forward is progressing better than expected at the moment, although the Morton boss is keen to err on the side of caution with Johnstone’s return.

Johansson told the Tele: “Denny is doing well.

“I’m hoping to have him back this season, but it’s more a bonus so I’m not pushing him at all.”

Meanwhile, there was less positive news about Rory McKeown, who injured his calf back in January.

His recovery has been slow so far after sustaining the injury in training, and Johansson doesn’t know when the former Kilmarnock and Raith Rovers player will be back on the field for the Ton.

He added: “I don’t know when Rory will be back because the knock on his calf hasn’t been healing, so I don’t have a time frame for him.”
