A BOY aged 14 faces surgery after being seriously assaulted during a mass street fight in Greenock last night.
The teenager suffered facial injuries during the 'large scale disturbance', near to Craigend Resource Centre, at around 10pm.
He was taken to Inverclyde Royal.
Detective Sergeant Stuart Young, of Greenock CID, said: “There was a large scale disturbance near to Craigend Resource Centre in McLeod Street, near to Sinclair Street.
"Community wardens attended and reported large scale fighting. Police attended and found the victim and culprits and we are making inquiries.
"A 14-year-old boy suffered facial injuries and was taken to Inverclyde Royal Hospital and is awaiting surgery."
Detectives say they are following a positive line of inquiry regarding one suspect but are appealing for witnesses.
DS Young said: "We are making a witness appeal to anyone who may have been in the area at the time, or anyone with dash cam or CCTV footage."
