KIND staff at the Tesco petrol station in Greenock have pumped money into a local nursery which was hit by a vandal attack.

The filling station workers wanted to cheer up everyone at Aileymill Nursery after its garden was damaged by yobs.

They smashed furniture, rainwater troughs and overturned planters before leaving a mess of recycling materials strewn across the play centre garden.

After the Tele highlighted the attack staff at the petrol station decided to step in and help.

Throughout the year the petrol station sells home-made tablet and any profits from sales are used to help local causes and charities.

One of the staff members who has a child at the nursery told her colleagues of the vandalism and they didn’t hesitate to offer help, by way of a cash donation.

Manager James Porter said: “We gather in money on an ongoing basis so already had some aside when we heard about the vandalism.

“Donating some of the money seemed like the ideal way to help and get the nursery garden back in order.

"We were happy that we were able to help cover an unexpected cost.

“We were able to donate £200 which we presented to the children and staff."

Teachers and children at the nursery are delighted with the donation.

Staff member Suzanne McMinn said: “The donation is fantastic and it is great to have that support.

"We really appreciate it and don’t take it for granted.

“The money will be used to buy resources, help with painting and decorating and replacing the broken items.

“Hopefully it will get the whole garden back up and running and back to normal.

“We would like to thank everyone at Tesco for the donation.”
