RAIN, sleet, snow and hail didn’t deter more than 70 volunteers from doing their bit to clean up the community.

Inverkip Primary School and Inverkip Church eco-group teamed up to organise a clean-up of Ardgowan Beach on Saturday.

Despite the miserable weather more than seventy volunteers, pupils, families, staff from RBS and teachers turned out to help, grabbing litter picks and helping to clean up the local area.

Dozens of bags filled with rubbish and other items were collected during the two-hour clean and everyone seemed to enjoy the event despite being soaked to the skin.

Volunteers were rewarded for their efforts by Café Riva who supplied tea, coffee, juice and snacks to allow people to warm up and recognise their efforts before heading home.

Hilary Cameron, convener of Inverkip Church eco-group, has thanked everyone who helped out.

She took to social media to praise all those who turned out.

She said: “Despite the weather, there was a fantastic turnout of over 70 volunteers at the Ardgowan Beach clean.

“A huge well done to everyone who took part and thanks to Cafe Riva by Nardini for supplying welcome refreshments afterwards.”

Inverkip primary teacher Victoria Chalmers, who helped to organise the event, was also quick to take to social media to express her thanks.

She said: “Over 70 of us turned up in the rain, sleet, snow and hail to take part in our fifth beach clean.

“I am a very proud teacher.

"Thank-you to everyone who came along, we couldn’t have done it without your support."
