TWENTY is plenty for a Greenock teenager who is taking on a series of challenges for a local sailing charity.

Shaun Wiseman has been on a number of voyages with Ocean Youth Trust, which organises sailing voyages to boost confidence and encourage team working.

It is celebrating its 20th anniversary and many of the volunteers and people who have attended voyages are looking to give back.

Shaun, 14, is one of them.

The Clydeview Academy pupil, who is studying to become a yacht master, aims to complete 20 running, swimming or cycling races this year.

He said: “I have been on three voyages with OYTS.

“I have not only heard about the amazing things the charity do, I have experienced it first hand.

“I was quite shy before but going on the voyages with people I didn’t know and learning to work with them as a team has really made me more confident.

“The whole environment is great - you pick up skills and qualifications and make friends.

"Being on one of the voyages is a great place to be and I want to help make sure more people can experience that.”

Superfit Shaun is a keen triathlete who trains every day of the week and decided he would push himself even more to complete 20 races.

He's already competed in four races to date, a two mile run round Battery Park for his running club Glenpark Harriers, a national cross country race in Falkirk, the schools cross country in Edinburgh and a duathlon which combines a 10k run with a 16k cycle.

He said: “To do 20 races without getting injured will be a challenge, I have never done that amount before.

"I know it will be intense but I am training hard.”

Shaun is aiming to raise £200 for the charity and with £75 already raised he is confident he can reach his target.

He said: “I want to thank everyone for their support so far. I would like to thank my parents who take me to competitions all over the country, they think what I am doing is great and are behind me one hundred per cent.”
