AN outdoor laundrette service for the community in Larkfield has been removed after being repeatedly vandalised.

The washing machines and tumble dryer were available to use 24/7 at Burns Square.

But due to continued and extensive vandalism, the facility has been taken away.

Local resident and community activist John Houston, known as JB, says it is very disappointing for the area.

He said: "My washing machine was on the brink a couple of weeks ago so I used the machines.

"It's a great facility.

"I actually produced an online video to show people how to use it.

"When it comes to an area like Larkfield, things are hard-fought for and easily lost.

"You have got to put so much effort in to get things like this for the community.

"I'm sorry to see this go."

John said it is even more galling as there is a CCTV camera nearby.

He added: "If the CCTV camera was working then perhaps it could've caught the culprits."

Also disappointed to see the service go is Stephen Regan, the chairman of Larkfield, Braeside and Branchton Community Council.

He has slammed the mindless yobs who targeted the machines.

Mr Regan said: "It's another service lost to Larkfield.

"A lot of people had used it.

"It's so disappointing that it had to be taken away, solely down to stupid vandalism."
