A VAST former Greenock pub and lounge is up for sale for almost £80,000.

The premises at Barrs Cottage, formerly The Overdraught, will go under the hammer at an auction in Glasgow at the end of the month.

It has a guide price of £79,000.

The 'substantial' 2,300 square foot building at the corner of Old Inverkip Street has been closed for several years.

Also previously known as the Melrose Lounge, the premises is being sold by Future Property Auctions on behalf of current owners Mitchells & Butlers - a giant in the food and drink industry with bar and restaurant brands such as Harvester, Toby Carvery, All Bar One and Miller & Carter.

The agents say it has the potential for a number of uses.

They said: "It's a substantial former hot food unit and public house, which is part of large building.

"There is potential for a takeaway and restaurant or soft play/offices, all subject to consents."

The building is split over three levels and includes a snooker and pool hall, function suite and ground floor bar, according to the sale particulars.

Auctioneers say there is also potential for the premises to be used for advertising and that it is an 'ideal rental property' given its prime location.

Offers are being accepted prior to the sale with a deadline of 5pm on Friday (APR 5) for bids.

The auction will take place in Glasgow's Radisson Blu Hotel on April 30 at 7pm.
