THROUGHOUT this year we will be dipping into the wedding albums of Warrington couples who have tied the knot and finding out more about the happiest day of their life.

This happy couple have known each other since primary school but it was a mutual love for Warrington Wolves that helped their friendship first bloom as well as being godparents to the same little girls.

Gemma Clancy, aged 28, and Richard Clancy, aged 27, say they mixed in different circles during primary and high school but as their friendship circles mixed they became best friends before Richard asked Gemma to be his girlfriend.

The pair got engaged on July 9 2016 in their living room at home.

It was a special anniversary for the pair as it was the date they first became boyfriend and girlfriend.

Gemma added: "Rich had planned a day at Chester races and then a meal at The Grill on the Square which is where we had our first date.

"He was supposed to propose later in the day but was so nervous he got down on one knee before we left the house and we had the entire day to celebrate."

Warrington Guardian:

They tied the knot on September 1 last year at St Elphin’s Parish Church followed by a reception at Mere Court Hotel and say the whole day was 'perfect' and the best day of their lives 'from start to finish'.

Warrington Guardian:

A total of 80 guests joined them in the day with 150 evening guests dancing the night away.

They tucked into a chicken liver terrine and toasted brioche, truffle butter and red onion marmalade for a starter, followed by a main course of roast rump of Cheshire beef with Yorkshire pudding, and roast potatoes and for dessert guests enjoyed a white and dark chocolate cheesecake with caramel sauce.

Evening guests had a choice of hot steak or cajun chicken baguettes with chips.

Warrington Guardian:

Richard says his favourite memory of the day was turning around in church and seeing Gemma for the first time while Gemma says it was walking down the aisle and their first dance later in the evening.

Warrington Guardian:

She added: "It felt like there was only us in the room.

"We wanted to get married to cement our family life and how much we love each other and share that with our family and friends.

"Nobody was surprised when we became a couple or announced our engagement as it seemed the natural path to take for us both.

"It is the best feeling in the world to be married to your best friend."

Warrington Guardian:

After the big day, the newly weds spent two weeks in Mexico, Riviera Cancun for their honeymoon.

They say a similar sense of humour and a love for rugby league helped bring them together.

Warrington Guardian:

Gemma added: "We tend to spend the majority of our time laughing with each other and are very rarely serious.

"Our personalities complement each others and it is difficult to give just any one reason why we love each other, it is easy to say we just do.

"We both enjoy rugby league and love going on walks with our dog which tend to start and end with a pub!"
