A TOP team of inventors from a Greenock secondary school showed plenty of bottle to win £1,000 in a Dragon's Den-style competition.

Pupils from Notre Dame High took on the best minds from across Renfrewshire, East Renfrewshire and West Dunbartonshire to triumph in the contest.

The local youngsters impressed judges with their idea of an eco-friendly reusable bottle at the first Incredible Innovations Competition.

The event was held at West College Scotland and jointly organised by Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) and Morrison Construction.

Jim Johnstone, economic performance manager with Morrison Construction, said: ‘‘I was delighted to present the winners' cheque to the Notre Dame High School team.

"It is wonderful to know the prize money will be used to supply 1,300 personal water bottles to existing and new pupils, as well as staff, cutting the use of plastic at the school."

Morrison Construction has committed to supplying 250 water bottles to kickstart the project.

Other schools from Inverclyde who took part included St Stephen’s High in Port Glasgow and St Columba’s High in Gourock.

Bob Davidson, DYW West director, said: "Everything that the pupils have done to reach the finals will help them prepare for life after school – working as a team, conducting research, managing budgets, public speaking and much more.

"These are all skills that employers want.

‘‘I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the schools, pupils and teachers that entered and congratulate the winners, runners up and all that reached the final.

"Finally thank you to Morrison Construction and West College Scotland for being great partners and working together with us on the competition - the project will run again after the summer.”
