A MUSICIAN from Gourock has scored a winner with a World Cup song to cheer on the Scotland women's football team.

Lynnie Carson has written the track, 'We Have Your Back', in support of the national side ahead of the tournament in France, which kicks off in July.

The former Greenock Academy pupil has combined her love of music and passion for football to celebrate Scotland's historic qualification for the FIFA Women's World Cup finals for the first time.

Lynnie, 39, also roped in some famous faces to help out with the project, including acclaimed singer Horse McDonald as a guest vocalist, and actress friend Maureen Carr, who recently starred on stage at the Beacon honouring Greenock comedian Chic Murray, and appears in the video.

The World Cup song will be released on May 5 in time for Scotland's opening match against England on June 9.

Lynnie told the Tele: "A lot of people still don't seem to know Scotland have done this amazing thing. "They'd never qualified for a World Cup before - or a major tournament until the Euros two years ago - so I wanted to mark that.

"The whole idea is to raise awareness and the profile of the women's game and the Scottish game."

The Gourock singer, who now lives in Glasgow, plays football every Thursday night having started out at community coach Davie Provan's five-a-sides in Greenock Sports Centre as a child.

She follows both the women's and men's national teams and will be in the stands for the World Cup opener against the Auld Enemy in Nice.

It is hoped the song will encourage even more people to get behind the team.

Lynnie said: "The whole idea is to raise awareness and the profile of the women's game and the Scottish game."

The song also features other well-known Glasgow singers, including Monica Queen, from band Thrum, and Unoma Okudo.

She enlisted the help of actor pal Maureen - Mo - who she knows from the 'Witsherface' comedy troupe and musician Horse after sending a speculative message.

Lynnie said: "I'm one of the writers for 'Witsherface' so I've known Mo for a while and she helped rally the troops.

"With Horse, I literally sent an email and said I'd love to have somebody like her involved - from an LGBT perspective and because she's got a great voice - to add something to it and she was like, 'right, I'm in'."

The song and video are online now via Lynnie's Facebook page and YouTube channel.

The track itself will be available to download on May 5 when there will also be a launch event at Saint Luke's & The Winged Ox in Glasgow from 1-4pm.

It will be hosted by River City actress Lesley Hart and feature live music, games and facepainting.
