A CARE worker faces a string of allegations of misconduct while working at Merino Court in Greenock.

Christy Jamieson, who was employed by HC-One Ltd, is to appear at a hearing expected to last 10 days at the Scottish Social Services Council in Dundee starting this week.

Mr Jamieson faces allegations of behaving inappropriately at work by failing to respect the dignity of residents and using derogatory language towards residents and colleagues.

He has also been accused of handling residents roughly and causing distress.

It is also alleged that he failed to follow correct procedures and was dishonest with his employer and that his actions impaired his fitness to practise because of his misconduct.

A report to the Scottish Social Services Council said: "The Fitness to Practise department considers that if the allegations are proved it is likely to result in a finding that your fitness to practise is impaired on the grounds of misconduct."

This would also mean that Mr Jamieson would have breached the Scottish Social Services Code of Practise for Social Service Workers.

The Notice of Fitness to Practise Panel impairment hearing will start on today and run until May 10.

Care bosses say the alleged incidents took place in 2016 and that Mr Jamieson no longer works for the company.

A spokesperson for the home said: “The alleged behaviour of this individual goes against the principles of compassion, kindness and dignity that we pride ourselves on as an organisation and staff team.

“At the time of the incident in 2016, the individual in question was suspended and later left our employment.

"We have since been working closely with the SSSC’s on their investigation, and strongly support their SSSC in ensuring care workers in Scotland meet the highest standards.

“Since the incident, Merino Court has twice been rated ‘very good’ by the Care Inspectorate (August 2017, June 2018), underlining that our staff team is committed to delivering the kindest possible care to all of our residents.

"We also receive regular positive feedback from residents and relatives, with the home being rated 9.7/10 on the independent comparison website, carehome.co.uk.”
