A KIND young footballer swapped the pitch for the peak of Ben Lomond and raised more than £800 for his club.

Aaron Hepburn, who is nine, scaled the famous Trossachs mountain in five hours - and even had a game of footie at the top.

The All Saints Primary pupil is a member of Port Glasgow Boys' Club Academy 2010 black side.

He took on the challenge to help pay for their trip to the Blackpool International Cup next Easter.

Aaron, who lives in Greenock's Arden Road with his mum Gillian, 41, and dad James, 53.

He said: "I feel quite proud of myself.

"I thin it is quite an achievement."

He was joined by his mum Gillian on the climb and even totted up all the steps he took - an amazing 25,000.

Gillian said: "I am so proud of him.

"It was a bit overwhelming when he saw Ben Lomond but fitness wasn't a problem for him.

"When I said to him 'Aaron look, there's the top' his face just lit up.

"We had a quick game of football with a small sponge ball.

"We also took a team flag to the top."

Aaron had always wanted to climb Ben Lomond and was inspired to go for it after his coach James Harris booked the Blackpool tournament and launched a fundraising campaign.

James said: "It's amazing - Aaron has made a huge contribution to to the funds.

"We have set a target of £6,000 overall and Aaron's £835 is a good kickstart in the right direction."

Aaron could have been forgiven for putting his feet up when he arrived back home following his climb but he was having none of that.

Gillian said: "He even had a game of football when he came back home!"
