PUPILS at Clydeview Academy will 'rock you' with their show inspired by the music of Queen.

A 50-strong cast including crew are busy rehearsing for their performance based on the stage show penned by Ben Elton.

It is also a topical choice coming after the release of smash-hit film Bohemian Rhapsody following the life of lead singer Freddie Mercury.

Depute head teacher Val Forsyth said: "We Will Rock You is based on the songs of Queen. We had chosen the show before the film came out. It is based on the stage show and script by Ben Elton. "It's a boy meets girl story who are from different backgrounds and how they overcome obstacles. The songs are great.

"Pupils are absolutely loving it. We tend to do a traditional show one year and a modern one the next.

"We have around 50 people involved in the show including the stage crew. Out stage manager is a fifth year pupil and pupils and former pupils are in the band.

"The pupils are so good, we give them the idea and they work on their own characters themselves."

"It's a boy meets girl story who are from different backgrounds and how they overcome obstacles to be together."

Kai Murdoch, 16, who plays Pop in the show, said: "I've enjoyed the sense of community, of everyone taking part and encouraging each other to go with it. It's a confidence booster. I think the music is perfect for the story."

While fellow cast member Alex McFarlane, 13, is a fan of Queen's music.

She said: "I heard the music before. My favourite is Somebody to Love.

"I like how dancey and upbeat it is and there is a part for everyone."

Michelle Bowman, who teaches maths and is principal guidance teacher is helping to stage the show.

While Gareth Coleman is the musical director, PE teacher Leanne McKissick is choreographer and Alice Ferrier who is a sixth year pupil is helping to produce the show.
