THE focus is on super snappers from two Inverclyde secondary schools after they were honoured for their fantastic photos.

Pupils from Clydeview Academy and St Columba's High took part in the annual 'young photographer' competition organised by The Rotary Club of Gourock recently.

It proved one of the most fiercely-contested to date.

This year's theme was 'the beauty of nature' and each student submitted three of their favourite pieces of work for consideration.

The winner was Finn Mitchell from Clydeview Academy with a striking selection of floral photos.

Runner-up was Joshua Smart, representing St Columba's, with a trio of images inspired by the beach and the water.

Clydeview student Morna McColl was third with her vibrant selection of floral and woodland photos.

Head judge and keen photographer, Alex Murphy, who is a member of Gourock Rotary, said: "We had a very difficult task in selecting the winners as the entries were of a very high standard and in the end separated only by a few points."

The winners were presented with certificates by current club president Boyd Thomson.

Mr Thomson also met with all entrants at each school to congratulate them on their efforts and thanked staff for assisting the young photographers with their submissions.

Overall winner Finn was put forward for the Rotary District 1230 competition for the chance to reach the national final.
