A COURAGEOUS four-year-old Greenock girl took on a charity race with a twist in memory of her much-missed mum.

Little Poppy Shaw completed the Glasgow Bubble Rush 5k in aid of Ardgowan Hospice as a tribute to mother Jen, who sadly passed away after battling cancer.

Poppy was joined by her gran Janet Stewart, her auntie Lorna Stewart and her cousin Shannon, nine, as well as 15 of Jen’s closest friends.

Lorna said Poppy had great fun.

She said: "Poppy absolutely loved it and kept saying she wanted to go through the bubbles again.

"There were 15 of us there on the day,.

"It was fantastic and we enjoyed it from start to finish."

Jen, 30, a devoted mother to the four-year-old and loving wife to husband Andrew, passed away on March 20 last year.

Jen’s sister Lorna says they chose the colourful and fun-filled fundraiser as it fitted Jen’s bright and bubbly nature.

She added: "It was very uplifting and fun - Jen would've loved it."

Just a few months after Jen's death she was named Heart of Gold winner at last year's Greenock Telegraph Community Champions Awards.

She was recognised for her extraordinary fundraising and efforts to raise awareness of bowel cancer, all while undergoing gruelling treatment and caring for her new baby.

This year, Poppy has followed in her mum's footsteps after being nominated in our Little Champion of the Year category.

Lorna said: "It would be amazing if she won an award just like her mum.

"We're over the moon that she's been nominated, we can't wait."
