Officers are also looking to trace the driver or occupants of a small white-coloured vehicle which parked on the A8 eastbound at James Watt Way.
Anyone with information or urged to contact Greenock CID via the 101 telephone number.
Alternatively, they can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 08000 555 111.
