A BAR and nightclub building in Greenock town centre has been put up for sale.

The former Rotunda in West Stewart Street is up for grabs with a guide price of £135,000.

It is being marketed by Soldfast Property Auctions and is due to go under the hammer on May 28, although offers can be made in advance of the sale.

Best known as the Rotunda, it was also previously called Above & Beyond, which featured a bar upstairs and a nightclub in the basement.

More recently, it was home to Indian and Chinese buffet-style restaurants, however the ventures were short-lived.

In a statement, the auction house said: "It's a super property ripe for redevelopment with the heart of Greenock town centre and presented in good order internally. "It would suit a restaurateur with a view to re-opening as a restaurant/buffet style premises with double fronted unit allowing for high visibility. "It has a main street location with high pedestrian traffic and footfall due to the bus stance.

"Parking spaces are included in the sale.

"The site may suit a variety of uses subject to researching and gaining the necessary consents."

The building is part of the Stewart Centre shopping precinct and in between the busy Kilblain Street and West Stewart Street bus terminals.

It was previously put up for sale four years ago for offers over £90,000.

The owner of the Stewart Centre is listed as the current owner.

Bosses from the Yesbar in Glasgow expressed an interest in the site several years ago but nothing came to fruition.
