A TEENAGE powerlifter is showing the weigh to go after smashing a string of records on her way to championship glory.
Bridget McCann, 17, broke a magnificent seven Scottish marks, and bench pressed more than her own body weight at her latest event.
The Greenock ironwoman — who started training when she was 13 — came out top in a field of 20 competitors at a British Championship qualifier in Glasgow.
But the rising star has her sights set on even greater goals as she eyes a crack at the World Championships in Germany in October.
Bridget said: "I love the training and I love the competition.
"I just want to push myself and see how far it takes me.
"But I'm very happy so far."
Bridget broke and re-broke national records in three weightlifting disciplines at the qualifying event earlier this month — squat, dead lift and bench press.
Despite her current body weight of 55kg, she 'benched' an impressive 57kg — as well as setting new marks of 112kg for squat and 115kg in the dead lift.
All this after taking part in her first ever event only last December.
Bridget said: "I started training in 2015 when I was 13, because I wanted to lose weight in a short period of time.
"One of the instructors at the Waterfront took me aside and said I needed to build myself back up again.
"He got me lifting weights and I realised I was quite strong."
The Irwin Street lifter added: "I have my own gym in the garage at home now and I'm training four times a week."
Thanks to Perth-based coach Chris Bentham — who provides online sessions — Bridget is priming herself to take her chosen sport by storm.
She said: "I've broken my personal bests and now I just want to do well enough in the British Championships in July to get to the worlds.
"When I first went to the gym I did mostly cardio stuff, not really knowing what to do.
"I understand things a lot better now."
Bridget — who sticks to a strict high carbs, high protein diet — is now studying for sports and coaching qualification at the Glasgow Clyde College.
