A LOCAL care home resident celebrated her 100th birtgday surrounded by family, friends and staff.

Jean Watt, who has been a resident at Larkfield View Care Home for the last two years, was spoiled by everyone as she celebrated her magical milestone.

Jean’s daughter June and the staff at the care home pulled out all the stops to mark the occasion, with balloons, gifts, a home-made cake, a singer, dancing, party hats and banners.

Jean's son and grandson were joined some staff members who came in especially on their day off.

June, 70, said: “Mum was was the oldest of nine and she moved to Inverclyde in 2015 and stayed in Grieve Road.

"She has been a resident at Larkfield View here for the last two years.

“This is a great care home.

"The staff are fantastic and can’t do enough to help.

"We had a brilliant party for her 99th birthday so we knew this year would be good and it really has been, everyone has enjoyed it.”

Jean has always enjoyed dancing and the staff and her daughter hired a singer who had been at events in the care home before to ensure the party was a success.

June said: “We knew we had to get the singer and mum and the residents have been up dancing.

“She has had lots of cards and gifts and was impressed with her card from the Queen, she has just been spoiled.

“It has been great fun, the staff joining in is lovely to see.

"Mum has just been taking it all in and it's been smiles all round.”

Larkfield View manager Elsie Maclennan said: “It is such a special day and a significant milestone so we had to celebrate.

“It has been a fantastic moment and it is lovely to celebrate with the other residents and Jean’s family.

“The staff enjoy the parties just as much as everyone else, with some even coming in on their day off which just shows the relationship between the staff and the residents."
