A GOUROCK woman driving a fundraising effort to install a new memorial for bereaved parents has organised two events.

Karyn Jenkins and her husband Andrew lost their daughter Sophie Louise at 22 weeks in 2012, leaving the couple heartbroken.

The couple were then devastated again when a mix up meant they missed the cremation.

Karyn is now pushing for a Tree of Tranquility in her home town, with the nearest current one 30 miles off in Glasgow.

She has gained approval from charity SiMBA to place it in Gourock Park and is pushing to raise the £16,600 needed.

Karyn will use the pop up McGilps charity shop in Kempock Street and is also arranging a ladies day.

She said: “I decided to do the shop because I want to raise awareness about the charity and about the tree.

“It will allow people to come to the shop, get more information about it all and also grab a few bargains or home-made goodies while they are at it.

“We will also be selling the SiMBA merchandise to allow people to get their own badges and bands.”

Karyn will be in the shop from June 21-23, from 10am until 5pm each day, and is appealing for donations to make it a success.

Then the following month the Clyde Suite in Greenock will welcome women for a SiMBA Ladies Day.

Karyn said: “I wanted to do the ladies day because I know there are people out there that would love to be part of helping fund raise for the tree but don’t know how or where to start.

“This allows them to have a great day and fundraise at the same time."

A Michael Buble tribute and a DJ will keep guests entertained throughout the afternoon.

Tickets for the event are on sale priced at £35 which includes entertainment, a hot buffet and a glass of bubbly on arrival.

The ladies day will be held on Sunday July 28 from 1pm until 5.30pm.

Anyone able to make a donation for the pop up shop or the ladies day is asked to contact Karyn via Facebook or by calling 07903910135.

A JustGiving page set up to fundraise for the tree has already raised almost £2,500.
