ENTERPRISING pupils at Inverkip Primary have raised more than £1,000 to help children in Africa.

Every year pupils organise a Malawi fun day to help raise money for their partner school Malavi Primary.

This year primary six pupils took charge of organising the event, which raised £1,144.

The money will be used to buy solar lights which will be invaluable to the staff and pupils.

The school has no electricity so children will be able to borrow the lamps and use them to help complete school work and study for exams at home.

Pupils at Inverkip Primary dressed in the colours of the flag of Malawi while they made their way around various stall and activities.

Activities on the day included nail painting, tattoos, golf, football, treasure hunts and a cake and candy stall.

Head teacher Diane Renfrew said: “Mrs Findlay and the primary six pupils organised the whole day.

"Mrs Findlay let the pupils take charge and they came up with the ideas for the stalls and stations and we had about 20 different activities.

“We are always happy to do what we can to support our partner school.

"We're delighted with the total raised, it is a fabulous amount and it was a terrific day enjoyed by all.

“All the pupils enjoyed the activities and we had a great day raising money for Malavi Primary.

“I want to thank Mrs Findlay and the primary six pupils for organising it all, everyone who donated and all the children who dressed in the colours of the flag of Malawi and took part."
