Over 150 people have signed up for the second annual Port Glasgow 10k

The road race will take place on Sunday June 16, setting off and finishing at Coronation Park, and it coincides with the Comet Festival.

The route, which has this year been licensed by Scottish Athletics, will also take in Kingston Dock, the town centre, Clune Park, Fyfe Shore, Kelburn Park and the boardwalk.

Following the success of the inaugural event last year, it is back for 2019 and there are still some places available.

The race is being organised by the Port Glasgow Runners group, which meets every Wednesday evening and is for people for all abilities.

There will be prizes for the fastest male runner - the Jim MacLeod Trophy - and the quickest female - the Riverside Inverclyde Trophy.

Additional awards will be presented to the top young man and woman under the age of 18.

Port Glasgow councillor, Chris Curley, who helps organise the race, said: "With four weeks to go to the race we have already have 150 people signed up. "Last year most people commented about how fast the course was. "Now that the race has been measured and certified we hope this will encourage more people to take part in what must be one of the least expensive 10k runs available to enter."

The route is substantially the same as last year but the fact that it has been licensed by Scottish Athletics means that participants' race times will be officially recorded.

General entry costs £7 and there is a concessionary discount.
