PICTURE perfect pupils got themselves in the frame at St Bart's Art Club's annual show at the Gamble Halls in Gourock.

Everyone was a winner but Gourock Primary was adjudged tops in the Walter Williams Memorial Art Competition.

Young artists Tom Pursztel, Ella McCullagh and Carys Donaldson took first, second and third place.

David Goldthorp, chairman of the art club, said: "It went very well.

"I hope the children and their parents enjoyed it."

"We had entries from Moorfoot Primary, St Ninian's Primary and Gourock Primary for the Walter Williams Memorial Trophy.

"He was a member of the club and left some money, so we decided to dedicate a trophy in his memory.

"We had 29 paintings in total from the three schools."

Children were asked to paint a picture inspired by Gourock or the Clyde or on a topic they were pursuing in the art class at school.

The paintings were judged by all members of the art club.

Mr Goldthorp said: "The standard was pretty good for primary six and seven pupils."

The winners received a small trophy they could keep and a watercolour paint set.

All entries received a certificate of merit.

Emma Henderson, of Gourock Primary, Kerri McGarrigle, of St Ninian's, and Callum Henderson, of Moorfoot, were also commended for their technique.

Local artist and Tele cartoonist Tom Johnstone presented the awards and gave a slideshow of old photographs of Gourock and Greenock.

Mr Goldthorp said: "We want to thank everyone who took part and everyone who helped to organise the event."
