A HIGH-FLYING teenager is on cloud nine after being given the role of Lord Lieutenant Cadet for Renfrewshire.

Abigail Cameron, 16, has been a member of the 49F MacRobert Greenock Squadron Royal Air Force Cadets for three and a half years and is currently second top rank of Flight Sergeant.

Abigail has worked her way up the ranks and hopes to join the RAF when she leaves school.

Now she will have the responsibility of assisting the Lord Lieutenant at events, parades and Royal visits.

Abigail said: “Everyone had seen great potential in myself to represent the air cadets as Lord Lieutenant Cadet and I filled in an application form.

“I found out I had been successful and I was extremely happy and proud of myself.

"This is one of the top things a cadet can do

“It wasn't something I was working towards but has always been something I have wanted to do.

“I will assist the Lord Lieutenant at events, parades and Royal visits and represent the air cadets

“I will have a presentation from the Lord Lieutenant in the near future and there after I will officially begin."

Abigail’s fellow cadets and her family are extremely proud of her.

Her mum Hilary said: “I am delighted that my daughter has been appointed Lord Lieutenant Cadet for Renfrewshire for the next year.

“I have seen her progress through the ranks in the Air Training Corps from corporal to sergeant and now flight sergeant and am very proud of all her achievements.

“Joining the Air Cadets has given her fantastic opportunities in sport, music and of course flying and next year I hope she fulfils her dream of joining the RAF full-time when she leaves school.”

Commanding officer Vanda Nicholls says Abigal thoroughly deserves the accolade.

She said: “Abigail works hard in all aspects of the cadets.

“Her appointment as Lord Lieutenant Cadet just tops off her dedication, perfect uniform appearance and commitment ."
