CLASSIC cars brought back fond memories for senior citizens at a residential home in Greenock.

Residents at Sir Gabriel Wood's Mariners' Home were in top gear as they got behind the wheel of the iconic vehicles during a special visit on Saturday.

Carol McEntee, activities co-ordinator at the home, organised the visit to coincide with events to mark the 75th anniversary of D-Day.

She said: "The classic car day was absolutely brilliant.

"We wanted to try and do something to commemorate D-Day.

"It was great fun, as the residents were allowed to sit in the cars and they were over-the-moon.

"Some of the residents said they remembered having certain cars."

Carol organised the event with the local classic car owners because it was so popular last year.

She added: "One of the residents has a son in law who has a classic car.

"I had mentioned it to him last year and he thought it was a great idea.

"The guys with the classic cars had a great time last year and they said they wanted to do it again."

The residents are already looking forward to seeing the cars again next year.

Carol added: "I would love to organise something for all the care homes, but I would need to find a venue big enough."
