A SPECIALIST chair designed to help bedbound pensioners has been donated to a care home in memory of a much loved Greenock dad.

Joe Crawford passed away at Bagatelle Care Home late last year, and as a tribute his loved ones wanted to help existing residents.

They organised a charity night in his memory and used the £3,000 raised to buy a Kirton chair for the home.

Mr Crawford’s son Stephen said: "The charity night was great - the generosity of everybody was amazing.

"A lot of the local companies donated raffle prizes.

"It feels good to give the chair to the home as other residents will get to use it.

"There's a sense of achievement."

The specialist chair is designed to help people with complex positioning and sitting needs and it offers comfort for those who sit still for long periods of time.

Stephen added: "The chair will make it easier for residents to come down at meal times and get involved in activities with the other residents."

Martha says it was an emotional moment to hand over the special seat.

She said: "People have been so kind, so we just want to thank everyone for their support and the local businesses who helped with the raffle."

Annmarie McKeegans, a staff nurse at Bagatelle, says they are grateful for the kind donation from the family.

She said: "We are absolutely delighted and over-the-moon with it.

"It will enhance the quality of life for the people who use it.

"We would like to thank Stephen and his family immensely.

"His dad was a pleasure to look after when he was here."

Stephen together with his mum Martha, sister Tracylynn and her son Evan and Joe's sister Annabella Aitken made the trip, pictured, to Bagatelle to hand over the chair.

They also want to acknowledge Joe's daughter Karen and son Joseph who were a big support in the fundraising effort, as well as family friend Sharon McBride.
