A KIND little girl is making summer extra special for needy children in Inverclyde.

Cassie Murphy, who is only seven, came up with the idea of supporting Children in Poverty Inverclyde by purchasing girls t-shirts to be given to those the charity helps.

Her mum Louise Larkin, who works as a draughtswoman at Ferguson's, won a raffle at the yard and got to choose the charity to benefit from the proceeds.

She contacted Children in Poverty Inverclyde chairman Pat Burke, who suggested she buy t-shirts using the money.

Louise said: "Me and Cassie went in town and bought 18 girls t-shirts to give to Pat for the girls for summer.

“Cassie took ages to pick out the t-shirts so that each one was special enough and proudly carried them to the till."

Louise and Cassie, who recently picked up a Little Champion Award at the Tele's Community Champion Awards night, handed the donations into the charity.

Louise added: “I’ve always brought Cassie up knowing how lucky she is and that not everyone is as lucky as her, and she should always be kind where possible.

“Every little thing helps, sometimes people don't realise how much - imagine 18 wee smiles for each t-shirt.

“We want to say well done to Pat and the team for all that they do.”

Pat was delighted to receive the donation which will be used by the children the charity helps to send on summer holidays.

Pat said: “Donating the t-shirts was a really lovely gesture from young Cassie Murphy and her mum Louise.

“It was a very caring thing for them to do and the t-shirts are very welcome.”
