IT was question time in Greenock as school pupils put the Tele on the spot.

All Saints Primary students quizzed reporter Paul John Coulter as part of their annual 'world of work' week.

Photographer Louise Gault also fielded questions from the inquisitive P7b class as they learned more about journalism and the media.

The Tele was one of several organisations taking part in the event to help the soon-to-be secondary school students get a flavour of what career path they might take when they finish their education.

Gillian Devenney, P7b class teacher, said: "It was great and the pupils really enjoyed it. "We're trying to teach them, and it maybe means more to primary sevens because they are embarking on their next journey to high school, about different types of work and what subjects they need for various careers.

"You're never too young to start thinking about what you want to do and how you get there, which is more important."

Throughout the course of the week, there were also visits from a physiotherapist, an archaeologist, Inverclyde Council community wardens, police, firefighters, staff from Ardgowan Hospice and Inverclyde Leisure fitness advisors.

The youngsters were keen to know why their guests got into their line of work, what subjects, qualifications and training they required and what the best and worst parts of the job are.

Teacher Kathryn Simpson, who organised the event, said: "We had quite a variety of people who came in this year.

"The questioning was great and that was what everybody commented on.

"It's really important that the pupils are exposed to a wide variety of careers and types of work.

"The children loved it."
