THE people of Port Glasgow enjoyed a party in Coronation Park as the sun came out to play.

This year's Comet Festival was one of the busiest and best yet.

Depute Provost and local councillor David Wilson hailed the event a huge success.

He was given the honour of opening the festival alongside the Gala King and Queen.

Festival goers then soaked up the rays and enjoyed all the family fun.

Councillor David Wilson said: "It really was a great day for Port Glasgow.

"It was great to see everyone out and about, with all the local organisations represented.

"We had a great turnout and our Comet King and Queen were both magnificent.

"The organisers on the Comet Festival Committee did a great job once again."

A long list of bands, dancers and other entertainers starred on stage and many local organisations were represented with stalls while Port Glasgow Salvation Army ran the catering tent, keeping everyone refreshed.

Joining in the festival fun too was Councillor Jim MacLeod.

He said: "It was a great day.

"There was an excellent turnout and the weather was great, which always helps."
