TOUGH tots proved they're made of strong stuff after taking on the tug of war at their school sports day.

The little ones at Aileymill Primary School got into gear to mark the end of the school year.

They enjoyed getting stuck into several disciplines including javelin, hurdles, basketball, archery and football.

Headteacher Catriona Miller Headteacher told the Tele the sports day was a huge success thanks to the tireless work of the Aileymill Parent Partnership group.

She said: "This is a traditional event for us and what makes it unique is that it is organised by our parents on partnership group.

"Every single child in the school takes part over the course of the day.

"It's a massive undertaking on the parents' part. They fundraise for it throughout the year so there's no cost to the children."

Mrs Miller says the event brings everyone closer together.

She added: "It's a real community day. The children have a great time as there is something for everyone."

Mrs Miller was keen to thank Frank Smith, chair of the Aileymill Parent Partnership, for his efforts.
