THE sun shone for Inverclyde's finest as they received the royal treatment at the Queen's garden party at Holyrood Palace in Edinburgh.

Guests mingled on the manicured lawns enjoying the pageantry of the prestigious annual event which forms part of Holyrood week.

Ladies were resplendent in their dresses and fascinators while gentlemen looked equally smart in suits.

They enjoyed tea and sandwiches in the presence of the Queen, the Princess Royal, the Duke of York and the Earl of Wessex.

Among the thousands of unsung heroes invited to the occasion were the Telegraph's photographer George Munro and his wife Karen, Kenny Lang youth convener of Greenock Wanderers and Helen Aitken who has served with Gourock 2nd Boys Brigade for 40 years and elders of Wellpark Mid Kirk and their families.

George said: "It was really nice to see other local people, 8,000 people were invited and Inverclyde was well represented. There was music from various bands and perfect weather."
