RAIL passengers are facing a second day of disruption with no trains running in Inverclyde.

The problems began yesterday morning when the weather brought trees and overhead wires down near Bishopton.

Trains were stuck on the line as a result.

Passengers who were trapped on a service which was stuck in the tunnel near the village had to be escorted to safety.

Network Rail engineers were called out and spent all day fixing the damage, with services between both Gourock and Wemyss Bay and Glasgow cancelled.

Bus replacements were provided between Inverclyde and Paisley.

ScotRail say repair work is still taking place this morning so all trains remain off.

They expect to be able to restart services around noon.

They said: “Due to damage to the overhead electric wires at Bishopton all lines are blocked. Disruption is expected until 12:00.

“Train services between Glasgow Central and Gourock and Wemyss Bay will be terminated at and started back from Paisley Gilmour Street. All stations between Paisley Gilmour Street and Gourock and Wemyss Bay will not be served.”
