A TODDLER'S tearful toy story had a happy ending after she was reunited with a precious lost pal.

Gourock dad Graeme Wallace bought his two-year-old daughter Ellie a Jessie toy in preparation for her first ever cinema trip to see the movie Toy Story 4.

Ellie took Jessie everywhere with her but was left heartbroken after she accidentally dropped her into the River Clyde and feared she was gone for good.

Ellie’s mum Amy Louise Shelton, said: “We were walking along the Esplanade last Thursday and Ellie had insisted that Jessie come along too.

“She got a little too excited and threw Jessie and her hat up in the air.

"Unfortunately Ellie was standing right at the sea wall at this point.

“The tide was in and there were no stairs anywhere near to where Jessie fell.

“Ellie was devastated and cried all the way home.

"We tried to explain that Jessie would have a little adventure at sea then wash up on a beach somewhere and that another little boy or girl would find her and she would make them happy.”

The family kept hold of Jessie's hat, which Graeme had managed to grab as she fell into the water and he was speaking to someone in work about what happened the next day when his colleague stopped him to say he had read an appeal on Facebook to reunite Jessie with her owner.

Gourock woman Rose Sloan had been out rowing with a crew from the Royal West of Scotland Amateur Boat Club when she spotted Jessie in the water and waded in to retrieve her.

Rose said: “We saw the doll in the water and it was obviously in very good condition.

"We realised that a child would have been heartbroken to lose it.

“Derek Charles Keatley who was part of the crew is a keen photographer and he took a photograph of Jessie sitting on the cox’s seat and posted it to our Facebook page in the hope of finding the owner.

“We were not that hopeful but when Amy Louise contacted us I invited them to my house in Gourock, where Jessie had been undergoing a spa treatment after her ordeal.

“She was sitting on the windowsill watching for Ellie who spotted her immediately.

“It was lovely to see the reunion between Ellie and Jessie and we are all delighted it was such a positive rescue.”

Grateful Ellie handed over thank-you gifts to Rose and the team for rescuing her friend.

Amy Louise said: “Rose had kindly washed Jessie and miraculously her voice still works.

“Ellie hasn’t let Jessie out of her sight since they were reunited and even insists she sleep beside her."
