A MAN has been arrested over two attempted armed robberies in Greenock yesterday.
It is alleged he brandished a screwdriver and demanded money at the U-save shop on Belville Street at 10.10am.
Detectives say he then made his way to the Best Cellar off-sales on East Crawford Street nearby and tried to rob a staff member of a mobile phone.
Detective Sergeant Ross Crawford, of Greenock CID, said: "Both attempted robberies were unsuccessful.
"A 27-year-old man is now in custody and is due to appear in court tomorrow."
Police say the incidents are not linked to the raids on the U-save premises last weekend, or the recent gunpoint hold up at Betfred on East Crawford Street.
