UNHAPPY residents in Gourock are up in arms over a new house under construction in their neighbourhood.

People living in Dunvegan Avenue say they are unhappy about a property being built on the street and they argue that it is 'out of character' and not in keeping with other dwellings there.

The site has been the subject of of unsuccessful planning applications over the years but the most recent bid was given the green light following a successful appeal to the Local Review Body.

The LRB overturned a ruling by officials who had said the house would be too close to the road.

Now permission has been sought for a series of amendments to the development by the applicant, Chris Canata.

A statement from a group of residents said: "An additional six windows have been added, with one removed.

"There is a total change to the roof design.

"The initial plan showed a single mono-pitched style roof, which now has a dual pitch roof added to the front entrance.

"The car port has been changed to a garage.

"The roof profile of the garage has also been changed.

"Solar panels have also been added, which would reflect into adjacent properties due to the height which they are to be installed at.

"We have sent a number of correspondences to the planning department both prior and during the building of this property and have had minimal response.

"This has only increased our frustration as we feel that this property is totally inappropriate for this area."

The residents are also unhappy that trees have been cleared towards the rear of the property.

Officials are now considering their submisisons to the formal consultation and then a decision will either be made by officials or passed to the planning board.

The Telegraph contacted applicant Mr Canata over the points made by the disgruntled residents.

He said: "The house has planning permission.

"There are non material variations to the house and these have been regularised through the amendment to planning application, including the roof level now being 62 centimetres lower than the original planning drawing.

"Four solar panels have been added.

"Solar panels are mandated by Inverclyde Council building control due to government 'green energy' requirements."
