A PLUCKY Port dad is teaming up with a famous TV presenter for a special charity walk.

Determined dad-of-two Andrew Rooney will don his walking boots to join Sky Sports Soocer Saturday show presenter Jeff Stelling, who is embarking on an epic walking challenge for Prostate Cancer UK – spanning four countries in four days.

Andrew will join marathon man Jeff on the Glasgow leg of the march on Thursday, walking 26 miles across five stadiums - from Hampden to Ibrox, on to Celtic Park, Hamilton Academical and finally Fir Park.

Andrew of Glenside Road, said: "I was naive to the statistics about prostate cancer.

"Just by chance I was watching Soccer Saturday and I noticed that Jeff Stelling was wearing a badge.

"I looked up the badge and started reading about how one man dies every 45 minutes from prostate cancer.

"I never knew that and obviously I'm approaching the age where they warn about it.

"I want to raise awareness about prostate cancer, especially in the local area."

The 40-year-old said he has since met prostate cancer survivors who have inspired him to raise money.

He added: "The charity organised a wee meet up so I had the chance to meet a few folk who are in remission from prostate cancer.

"It was very inspiring.

"One gentleman had it twice.

"I want to help raise awareness and money as they are trying to improve the screening process to make it easier ."

Andrew, who lives with his wife Alison and two kids Hannah, 11, and Euan, five, has already raised over £1,000.

He said: "I'm so grateful for all the donations I've had.

"Port Glasgow Social Club have been selling badges and have raised over £100 which is brilliant."

Andrew, a call centre manager, says he can't wait to meet legendary score-flash show anchorman Jeff, who has already completed 25 walking marathons for the charity, raising close to £800,000.

He aims to smash through the £1m fundraising barrier as he travels to Glasgow, Belfast, Cardiff and London from 5-8 September.
