FLOWER power lit up Kilmacolm as the annual flower show got under way.

Fabulous fuchsias, delightful dahlias and colourful carnations were just some of the prize-winning plants at the 140th anniversary show at the community centre on Saturday.

Jill Russell, show secretary, said over 150 people came along to show their support.

She said: "This year we had less cut flowers due to the wind and rain in August but we had several new exhibits in the show.

"There were lots of potted plants and tubs and that all helped to colour up the show.

"Everything was well supported.

"The hall was filled with colour with good quality exhibits.

"We would like to thank all our exhibitors who entered, and members and visitors who helped greatly to ensure the show was a success."

One of the big winners on the day was Irene Gillone who took best exhibit in fuchsias plus best in pot plants as well as the most points in pot plants.

She also won the John Tainsh Memorable Trophy for the most meritorious exhibit in the show, for her pot fuchsia.
