THE life of a brave little girl whose battle against cancer touched the whole community is being celebrated with a special charity event.

A fundraising Ladies Day is being arranged in memory of Rosie Veronica Mitchell, who sadly lost her fight against neuroblastoma in January at the age of just seven.

Now a family friend is organising an event to help other kids with cancer.

Rosie's mum Donna-Louise Hurrell and dad Ross Mitchell are sure their daughter would have loved the idea of helping other youngsters.

She said: "Rosie would love a party in her name and be so glad of the opportunity to give back to some amazing charities working with kids affected by cancer."

Family friend Amanda Harkins is organising the event with members of Donna-Louise's family, Anne and Susan Brown.

She said: "We had a Ladies Day in February which we had started organising the September before, for Rosie's treatment.

"When she passed away we were going to cancel it.

"Donna and Ross wanted us to go ahead to celebrate Rosie's life and we went along with their wishes."

During Rosie's illness the family, with the help of the local community, raised an incredible £180,000 for the charity Solving Kids Cancer to help pay for life-saving treatment abroad they hoped Rosie would have.

Amanda is determined to do her bit to help carry on that good work.

She said: "Rosie touched a lot of people's lives and inspired everyone.

"She was beautiful inside and out - and she loved a party."

Amanda says that a lot of people are keen to support Donna-Louise and Ross and 10 tables have been sold already.

She said: "There is a lot of support for the family.

"We never want Rosie's memory to fade, she was so loved by everyone."

Amanda says Rosie parents and her brothers, twins Lucas and Dylan, have been amazing in the way they have coped with their unimaginable loss.

She said: "Rosie gets them through day to day."

The celebration will take place at Greenock Town Hall on February 9 between 2 and 8pm.

There will be a band, DJ and a sit-down meal, fun and dancing, with all funds raised going to a charity of the family's choice.
