THE public are being invited to have their say over new plans to knock down part of the Oak Mall.
Bosses of the shopping centre will hold a public consultation next month over revised proposals to knock down the eastern wing of the building.
The section of the Mall involved has a high level of vacancies and runs from beneath the A78 High Street along to the existing entrance on to Clyde Square.
Earlier this year, a similar proposal was refused by planners due to the lack of certainty surrounding the future use of the prominent gap site that would be created.
Officials also highlighted the impact on the historic environment and the design of a proposed new mall façade.
This time round the Mall is including residential development in its plans to address what would happen to the vacant site.
The Tele recently reported how the Oak Mall is up for sale for £14 million.
Its Luxembourg-based parent company, Lunar Greenock Sarl, took over in March 2014 four months after it went into administration and subsequently went bust with debts of nearly £80m.
The shopping centre and its associated assets were then sold for £35.7m.
Five years later, the Mall is now up for sale for a fraction of the price.
It is being marketed by top UK estate agents Savills for £14.1m.
The Tele contacted the Oak Mall bosses about their new plans for the shopping centre but nobody responded.
The public consultation event will take place at the shopping centre on Wednesday October 9 from 1 to 7pm.
