TOES were tapping at another successful tea dance in Port Glasgow Town Hall.

Around 160 guests turned up for the afternoon get-together, run by Your Voice.

Dancers took to the floor to prove they still had the steps they perfected in their youth at the Cragburn and other local dance halls.

Margaret Tait, vice-chair of Your Voice and secretary of Inverclyde Elderly Forum, said: "When you look around the hall, it's a joyous sight. The minute the music starts, people come alive.

"Even if they aren't able to get on the dancefloor, they taking part just being here.

"It's getting these pensioners out and meeting other people."

Two Greenock ladies who had attended for the first time told the Tele they were having a 'great time'.

Jean Domingo, 84, said: "It's a great atmosphere.

"I am trying my best to get out and I joined Your Voice. Days like today are brilliant."

Isabel Kerr, 74, said: "I'd heard about the tea dances and I think it's really good idea. I'm delighted I came along."

Many dancers came from care homes across Inverclyde and some from Orchard View, the long-term complex care ward at Inverclyde Royal.

Claire Craig, physiotherapist at Orchard View, was full of praise for the event.

She said: "These tea dances are an opportunity to get people out into the community and help them socialise.

"It's all about keeping people active. They are good for movement, for balance and mental health.

"Our aim is to keep people active for longer. This is exercise but it's not a chore. It's a fun thing for everyone to enjoy.

"It takes people back to when they were going to 'the dancing'."
